Beds
Let's start with the obvious one! Beds, as you know, come in many different sizes and styles. Ultimately your choice will come down to whatever feels the most comfortable to you. Don't be afraid to explore all the options before making your decision! Let's break down some of the options to consider for your tiny home bedroom.

Don't be afraid to explore all the options before making your decision! Let's break down some of the options to consider for your tiny home bedroom.
General Bed Sizes
Standard Bed
Standard beds are easy to get in many different styles to suit your tiny home. They are also the most straightforward option and sometimes great for the budget! However, I would encourage you to explore options that offer more than just a place to sleep to make the most out of your tiny house bedroom.

Storage Bed
Storage beds are great for those with plenty of belongings to store in their bedroom. These are a great way to maximise all storage opportunities and are easily accessible with pull-out drawers on runners or wheels. Drawers under the bed are a great option to store shoes, clothes, bags, blankets, or anything else you need to tuck away. Incorporating storage into the bed will ensure you're on your way to having the storage you'll need in your tiny house bedroom!

Lowered Beds
These are almost non-negotiable for those who have decided to go for a loft bedroom. With the reduced head height, you'll want your mattress and bed frame to be as low to the ground as possible! If you're looking for the ultimate low-profile bed in your loft, think about integrating a recessed slat bed into the loft's floor. No space wasted here!

Murphy Beds
These are an excellent option for those who love multi-functional furniture or are looking for a space-saver. During the day, the bed is tucked away nicely and pulled down at night. Murphy beds are an excellent choice for those looking to maximise their tiny house floor plan or those looking to add an optional sleeping place.
Tip: Murphy beds can pair well with an adjacent sofa or swivel office desk below!

Day Bed
Day beds are another great multi-functional option to use in your tiny home. Like the Murphy bed, they are great for lounging during the day and provide a place to sleep at night. Unlike the Murphy bed, the day bed will take up a permanent space in your floor plan. If you're looking for a sofa to double as a sleeping space without too much trouble, this is the way to go!

Convertible Beds
If you've opted for a standard sofa rather than a built-in, that's no problem! Consider opting for a couch that can convert into a bed. These are great for the occasional guest while not interrupting your sofa look during the day. Sofa-beds come in many shapes, styles, and sizes to suit your lounge space.

Built-in Shelving
Want to squeeze in the last little bit of extra storage in your bedroom? Built-in shelving might be just right for you! These can be either built into a piece of cabinetry or directly into an interior wall. These are great if your bed is against a wall and you'd like a place to put your glass of water or book.
Tip: Built-in shelving is a great way to keep your items accessible to you and to avoid having to reach over your partner!

Bunks
Bunks are the perfect solution to create two separate sleeping spaces in the place of one. Bunks are all-time space-savers, and combined in a tiny house makes a great combo. Bunks work incredibly well in kid's rooms and optimise the space to the last millimeter. Bunks work great on the ground floor (to allow for extra height) or in an "l-shaped" stack within the mezzanine.

Bedside Storage
Making your choice of bed first will decide how much space you'll have for storage next to the bed. Bedside storage is a perfect spot for a small lamp, a place for your book, a glass of water, or to charge your phone. Everything can be easily accessible and right there when you need it. A simple floating shelf might be just right for you for one or two items. If you'd like to have a little more storage tucked away, a drawer will be perfect for you.

Wardrobes
You'll want to consider a place to store your clothes and shoes in your tiny house bedroom. Instead of using free-standing dressers/drawers, we always use space-efficient in-built wardrobes. Wardrobes are great for keeping everything tucked away and tidy. They are also great for organising as they can have a mixture of hanging space and drawers.
Tip: To understand your wardrobe layout, inspect your current wardrobe about what you like and what bugs you! I'm sure you have already found many parts you'd like to change to your liking. Use the opportunity to create the perfect storage space for you! Understanding your storage needs first will help you make the right decision here.

Workspaces
If you need a workspace at home and the kitchen countertop doesn't cut it, putting a workspace into your bedroom might be the best option for you! For the occasional workspace, incorporating movable furniture into your tiny home will make it more flexible depending on when you need the space. There are great options for foldable or wall hung desks that would be perfect for your tiny house bedroom. If you love a minimalist clutter-free bedroom, you can even integrate a desk into your wardrobe.

Shelving & Bookcases
Shelving and bookcases can be a great way to incorporate personal style into your bedroom. As I've touched on in the living room blog post, these are a great way to make your space feel like your own. Consider what you would like to put out on display and what type of shelving you would prefer. Even one or two minimal shelves can make all the difference to your tiny home bedroom. Paired with some beautiful lighting and you're onto a winner!

Other Points to Consider
Here's a couple of other points to consider while designing your tiny house bedroom.
Other Points to Consider
Here's a couple of other points to consider while designing your tiny house bedroom.
Closed or open to the rest of the tiny house
Whether you want your bedroom separate from everything else or highly connected, consider what would work best for your lifestyle. A closed-off bedroom might be suitable for you if you have young kids. If you're looking to achieve a lofty Airbnb with a great connection to the outdoors, an open bedroom might be the best option.

If you've chosen a Murphy bed, these are by default open to the rest of your tiny house and placed on the ground floor. Loft bedrooms are a great option as they are space-efficient and tucked away. Because they don't require full headroom, loft bedrooms make a much more comfortable floor plan downstairs!

Access to Loft Bedrooms
If you like the idea of having a loft bedroom, think about what access would suit you better. Stairs are a great option and less demanding than climbing a ladder—full-height accessways/walkways are a great addition here too! Ladders are, of course, a smaller and more space-efficient option. However, ladders vs. stairs is an entirely different topic, which I will get into in a future blog!
